The AJS is pleased to feature an innovative component in its annual conference: the Poster Session. The poster format offers an excellent opportunity to present and observe new research, interact with scholars on an individual basis, and incorporate multi-media resources into the conference presentation. Scholars working on topics that lend themselves to visual presentation are especially encouraged to utilize this format. The poster session can also be particularly beneficial for graduate students and those with works-in-progress, as it provides the opportunity for detailed feedback and one-on-one conversations. New this year: groups of scholars may also submit proposals for a thematic collection of posters (e.g., on a collaborative project).

Where the Many Have Trodden: A Path into Halakhah for Non-Jewish Values Hillel Gray (University of Chicago)
Jewish Continuity through Non-Jewish Mothers Jennifer Thompson (Emory University)
Jennifer Thompson’s poster was created using a PowerPoint poster template, which allows the designer to specify the dimensions of the slide in accordance with the poster-hanging space (4' high x 8' wide). The designer is able to make stylistic changes to the template, such as color, font, etc. The poster was then printed using a large format printer, which can be found at Kinko’s or any similar printing shop.
SCHEDULE
Presentations will be grouped by field.
Set-up: Presenters may set up their materials anytime on Sunday December 21 or Monday morning, December 22. All materials must be set up by Monday morning, December 22 at 9:30 a.m. The AJS will encourage conference attendees to stroll through the poster session area to view displays before the formal poster session.
Poster Session: The poster session will take place from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm on Monday, December 22. During this time, poster presenters should be available to answer questions and discuss their work with conference attendees.
Poster presenters are to be available during this period to field questions about their presentations and discuss their work. Conference attendees will walk through the poster display area and stop to discuss work with presenters. Presenters are encouraged to leave their work and contact information on display through the remainder of the day to allow for maximum viewing.

FORMAT
The AJS does not require a specific format for poster presentations. However, a balanced design is recommended, combining visual elements (i.e., graphs, tables, photographs, illustrations) with enough typed text to clearly and succinctly communicate the research project and argument. We encourage you to examine one or more of the following websites that offer detailed suggestions and strategies for constructing a poster presentation:

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Do I have to limit myself to one poster?
No, as long as your entire presentation falls within the measurement specs provided above. When designing your poster(s), please give some thought to whether a particular layout will be sufficiently clear and organized for viewers to follow.
Can I provide handouts?
Yes, but you are responsible for your own materials – at this time we cannot provide table space for any items other than laptops.
