Membership Categories

Regular Membership
Regular Membership is open to individuals whose full-time vocation is devoted to either teaching or research in academic Jewish studies or related endeavors in academic Jewish studies.

Associate Membership
Associate Membership is open to individuals whose full-time vocation is not in academic Jewish studies, but whose intellectual concerns are related to the purposes of the Association for Jewish Studies. Associate members are eligible for a $10.00 discount on their dues. To receive this discount, please find the membership rate appropriate to your income level and pay the next lower rate (for example, if your dues would normally be $110.00, pay $100.00). If paying online, please make sure to identify yourself as an Associate Member in the appropriate space.

Student Membership
Student Membership is open to full-time graduate students who are concentrating in an area of Jewish studies. Verification of full-time status must be submitted by the registrar of the institution at which the student is enrolled in order to qualify for Student Membership. Such verification must be submitted in subsequent years with membership renewal. Please note: Graduate students who are employed on more than a half-time bases are not eligible for Student Membership.

Joint Membership
Joint Membership is open to couples who share a household and who are both engaged in Jewish studies. A single membership fee based on combined income is applied. Both members are included on a single address for mailing and record purposes. Joint student members pay a single rate of $45.00.

Payment Methods

By Credit Card
Members are strongly encouraged to pay all dues and fees by credit card through the AJS’s online secure server. Please note that all transactions completed through the secure server will appear on your credit card statement as a charge from www.donate.net. The AJS office in New York does not accept credit card information directly, so please do not mail, fax, or phone in such data. If you are joining the AJS for the first time, you must mail a copy of the Membership Enrollment/Renewal Form to the AJS office in addition to completing the online payment. If you are renewing your membership and any part of your contact information has changed (name, mailing address, phone, e-mail), you must also send the updated information to the AJS office by using the Membership Enrollment/Renewal Form or sending an e-mail message to ajs@ajs.cjh.org.

By Check
If you are unable to pay online, please make checks payable to the Association for Jewish Studies. Please also make sure to submit a Membership Enrollment/Renewal Form with your check in order to ensure the accuracy of your membership record. If you reside outside the USA, your check must be in U.S. dollars and payable at a U.S. bank.

Membership Data Privacy Policy

The Association for Jewish Studies maintains records of member mailing addresses, phone and fax numbers, and e-mail addresses in order to contact members regarding organizational matters. The AJS mailing list, which is rented through A.B. Data Information, contains only names and mailing addresses.
