The Association for Jewish Studies welcomes you to Los Angeles for its 41st Annual Conference, December 20-22, 2009. This year's destination promises to provide an enriching backdrop for conference sessions, plenary, receptions, and exhibits. We hope you find this guide helpful and easy-to-follow. It is meant to provide you with tips on getting around and making the most of everything this vibrant city has to offer. I. Hotel Information
The Association for Jewish Studies 41st Annual Conference will be held in the landmark Hyatt Regency Century Plaza hotel, located on Avenue of the Stars in Los Angeles. The location will put you in the Los Angeles district of Century City, a commercial and residential district on the west side of Los Angeles.

The AJS has secured extraordinary hotel rates and discounts for AJS members attending the 41st Annual Conference, December 19 - 21, 2009 in Los Angeles. These special prices and discounts include:
- Room rates of $119/night ($109/night for students). In addition, those who stay three nights will get the fourth night at 50% off.
- A 15% discount at all in-house restaurants and food outlets (excluding alcohol); 15% discount for services at the Equinox Spa (located on the grounds of the hotel); $10 special daily pass to the Equinox Gym; and special reduced in-room internet service of $4.99/day.
- Special reduced roundtrip fare of $24 on Super Shuttle, between LAX airport and the Century Plaza.
- Discounted tickets at local cultural institutions, including the Los Angeles County Museum and the Skirball Cultural Center.

II. Transportation
The major airport serving the Los Angeles area is the Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). In addition, there is the Amtrak railroad system. The AJS has created a Conference Travel Blog with news about special airline fares to Los Angeles.
Getting to the hotel:
From LAX:
Super Shuttle - Special AJS Discount - offers 24-hour service, 7 days a week to and from LAX/Century City.
- AJS has arranged a special reduced roundtrip fare of $24.00 between LAX and Century City. Information forthcoming on how to reserve for Super Shuttle and receive the special AJS discount. Please contact the AJS Office for the Super Shuttle discount code.
- Arriving guests will find a Shared Ride island outside of each baggage claim area. Look for blue vans with yellow lettering marked "Super Shuttle."
Taxis - can be found curbside on the Lower/Arrival Level islands in front of each terminal under the yellow sign indicating Taxis.
- Passengers will be presented with a ticket stating typical fares to major destinations.
- Only authorized taxis with an official seal issued by City of Los Angeles Department of Transportation on each vehicle are permitted in the airport. It is illegal for any transportation services to solicit fares, and travelers using such services do so at their own risk.
- Departing guests should speak with the hotel concierge to arrange transportation back to LAX.
- Cost: approximately $35.00 each way
Directions
From Los Angeles International Airport (approximately 10 miles)
Take Century Boulevard East to the San Diego Freeway (Interstate 405) North and exit at Santa Monica Boulevard. Turn right onto Santa Monica Boulevard, proceed 2 miles, and turn right onto Avenue of the Stars. The hotel is located 2 blocks ahead, on the right.
From East
Take Interstate 10 West past downtown Los Angeles. Exit at Overland Avenue and turn right. Proceed 1 mile to Pico and turn right. Proceed 1 mile to Avenue of the Stars and turn left.
From North
Take Highway 101 South to I-405 South. Exit I-405 onto Santa Monica Boulevard and turn left. Turn right onto Avenue of the Stars. The hotel is located 2 blocks ahead, on the right.
From South
Take Interstate 5 North to I-405. Follow I-405 North to Santa Monica Boulevard and turn right. Proceed 2 miles to Avenue of the Stars and turn right. The hotel is located 2 blocks ahead, on the right.
