Marsha Rozenblit

Marsha L. Rozenblit is the Harvey M. Meyerhoff Professor of Modern Jewish History at the University of Maryland, College Park, where she has been on the faculty since 1978. She is the author of two books: The Jews of Vienna, 1867-1914: Assimilation and Identity (State University of New York Press, 1983) and Reconstructing a National Identity: The Jews of Habsburg Austria during World War I(Oxford University Press, 2001). She has also edited a book (with Pieter Judson), Constructing Nationalities in East Central Europe (Berghahn Press, 2005), and published over 30 scholarly articles on such issues as Jewish religious reform in nineteenth century Vienna, Jewish marriage and courtship patterns in Vienna in the 1920s, synagogue affiliation in 19th century Baltimore, and the social foundations of antisemitism in the Habsburg Monarchy, 1848-1918. She is currently working on the relationship between Jews and other Germans in Moravia, 1848-1938. Rozenblit received her B.A. from Barnard College in 1971 and her Ph.D. from Columbia University in 1980. She served as the director of the Jewish Studies Program at the University of Maryland from 1998-2003 and 2006-2007. At the Association for Jewish Studies she has served as President (2009-2011) and as Vice President for Program (2006-2009).
